New front discs and pads

2005-08-05 00:00:00

I've just fitted some new discs and pads to the front of my Chimaera. I went for Black Diamond 240mm grooved discs and Predator fast road pads which i ordered online from www.europerformance.co.uk. Fitting was straight foward - it's a simple case of removing the caliper from its mount (leaving the brake hose attached) and sliding out, with a bit of force, the brake pads, after taking off the spring retaining clip. The disc is only held in place by the caliper and wheel and so just slides of the wheel studs.

The brakes were fitted at 54,388 miles and can take a few hundred miles to bed in before full braking power is achieved. Straight out of the box, braking power is very low. I wasn't quite expecting how poor the brakes would be to start with. I took the car for a short careful drive and found that there is next to no braking at the front. The minimal braking that does exist appears to be coming from the rear only. I will need to take it very carefully over the next few weeks, anticipating all my braking, until the discs and pads have bedded in.
