Misfire returns

2005-08-14 00:00:00

Nearly 120 miles after the engine cut-outs a few weeks ago, the problem has returned. Whilst cruising along at the national speed limit on a single carriage way, the car spluttered very briefly. It happened twice in short succession and was only enough to cause a minor interruption in power, but something was definitely amiss.

Just half a mile later when pulling away at a roundabout, it happened again, though this time it was more pronounced and actually cut the engine completely, leaving me coasting in the inside of a very busy roundabout. Turning the key, the engine fired up straight away and i headed for home, though not before the car spluttered once more!

Possible causes of this could be:
  • Spark plugs
  • HT leads
  • Coil
  • Stepper motor
  • Air mass sensor
  • Coolant temperature sensor
  • Contaminants in fuel due to D-Tox
New uprated leads, plugs and coil will be arriving tomorrow, along with a new distributor cap and rotor arm. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that these will have a positive effect on the engine. More on this in the next few days.
